UMSU Businesses & Services

The UMSU Businesses and Services accept applications all year in case vacancies occur. The UMSU businesses include Degrees Diner, Archives, GPAs, IQs, Answers, The Hub (Pub) and the Copy Centre.

UMSU Events Assistant

Reports to: Events Coordinator
Wage: $10.50/hour
Application Deadline: May 18, 2012
Start Date: June 4, 2012
Position Overview:
The University of Manitoba Students' Union is currently seeking an Events Assistant. This individual will assist the UMSU FT Events Coordinator in all aspects of UMSU even preparation and execution.
Length of term: June 4, 2012 – April 30, 2013
Hours: 30-40 hours per week from hire until end of UMSU Fest, 10-15 hours per week through rest of school year.
Additional hours may be available during special events such as Celebration Week.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with all aspects of planning and management of UMSU events – including social, educational, and political events
• Coordination of volunteers for UMSU events
• Assist with sponsorship solicitation and relations for UMSU events and publications
• Assist with all aspects of UMSU promotion
• Assist with the coordination of performers, speakers and event logistics
• Assist in the general production of UMSU events as directed by the Events Coordinator, in conjunction with the Executive
• Other duties as required

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate:
• Is knowledgeable of UMSU, its services, events, faculty councils and student groups
• Is experienced working with University administrative policies
• Possesses experience recruiting and managing volunteers
• Has a large network of friends and colleagues on campus from which to recruit volunteers
• Has experience soliciting advertising and sponsorship
• Has strong written and verbal communication skills
• Possesses excellent time management skills
• Holds a valid Class 5 driver's license, or equivalent
• Is familiar with Microsoft Office (including Word & Excel)
• Has experience in special event, festival or concert organizing
• Is a University of Manitoba student

UMSU Orientation Assistant

Reports to: Events Coordinator
Wage: $10.50/hour
Application Deadline: Friday, May 18, 2012
Start Date: June 4, 2012
Position Overview:
The University of Manitoba Students' Union is currently seeking an Orientation Assistant to assist in the preparation and execution
of the September 2012 UMSU Fest.
Length of term: June 4, 2012 - September 21, 2012
Hours: 40/week, with the possibility of overtime
Responsibilities:
• Assist with all aspects of planning and management of UMSU events – including social, educational, and political events
• Coordination of volunteers for UMSU events
• Assist with sponsorship solicitation and relations for UMSU events and publications
• Assist with all aspects of UMSU promotion
• Assist with the coordination of performers, speakers and event logistics

As this position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, the candidate must:
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
• Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent residents or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

The Hub Promotions Assistant

Reports to: Manager, The Hub
Wage: $10.50/hour
Application Deadline: As Soon As Possible
Start Date: To Be Determined
Position Overview:
The University of Manitoba Students' Union is currently seeking individuals to join The Hub as a Promotions Assistant. Must be willing and able to work late nights (up to 2am) and varying shifts. Successful candidate will be subject to a trial/probationary period.
Length of term: To Be Determined - April 30, 2013
Hours: To Be Determined

Responsibilities:

• Assist Manager with promotions/marketing, including social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc...)
• Interact with the crowd - give out prizes, promote special events etc.
• Introduce DJ's, bands, and other acts

Qualifications:

• Outgoing and personable
• Willing to work late nights (until 2am) and unpredictable shifts
• Have own transportation
• Experience in promotions/marketing, with an emphasis on social media promotion
• Experience as an MC considered an asset

Photographer at the Hub

Reports to: Manager, The Hub
Wage: $10.50/hour
Application Deadline: As Soon As Possible
Start Date: To Be Determined
Position Overview:
The University of Manitoba Students' Union is currently seeking a photographer to join The Hub team. Must be able to work late nights (up to 2am) and varying shifts on an as needed basis. Successful candidate will be subject to a trial/probationary period.
Length of term: Until April 30, 2013
Hours: To Be Determined

Responsibilities:

• Interact with the crowd
• Take patrons pictures, post them on social media & web sites
• Assist with promotions/marketing as required

Qualifications:

• Outgoing and personable
• Willing to work late nights (until 2am) and unpredictable shifts
• Experience working as photographer
• Have own transportation
• Have own photographic equipment

UMREG Bike Dungeon Mechanic

Reports to: UMREG Coordinator
Wage: $10.50/hour
Application Deadline: May 17, 2012
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Position Overview:
The University of Manitoba Recycling and Environmental Group is looking to add a Bike Dungeon Mechanic to the UMREG team. This is a term position, ending August 31, 2012. Position may be extended, dependent on budgetary considerations and operational need.
Length of term: Until August 31, 2012
Hours: 10 to 20 per week

Responsibilities:

• Perform bicycle repairs
• Assistant in other areas of UMREG operations - environmental advocacy, composting, etc...

Qualifications:

• Capable of repairing bicycles
• Receptive to training
• Strong problem solving skills
• Understanding of, and commitment to, environmental issues a must
Experience with graphic design, communications, customer service, and organic waste handling (compost) considered an asset
