Two campus student organizations were honoured yesterday at the 2008
Manitoba Volunteer Awards - Engineers Without Borders Manitoba and
Peers: Students Helping Students. "These awards demonstrate the amount of caring and compassion University of Manitoba students have," states Jonny Sopotiuk, UMSU President.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEThursday May 1, 2008WINNIPEG -- Two campus student organizations were honoured yesterday at the 2008 Manitoba Volunteer Awards - Engineers Without Borders Manitoba and Peers: Students Helping Students. "These awards demonstrate the amount of caring and compassion University of Manitoba students have," states Jonny Sopotiuk, UMSU President. Engineers Without Borders Manitoba - Winnipeg was honoured in The Premier's Volunteer Service Awards, community group category. Peers: Students Helping Students was recognized in the Mayor's Volunteer Service Awards, human services category. "Both of these volunteer organizations are excellent examples of volunteerism both on and off campus, showing the dedication of U of M students to the campus community, local community, and global community," states Sopotiuk. Engineers Without Borders Manitoba was recognized for the student volunteers who work with developing communities to improve their quality of life through access to technology. Peers: Students Helping Students was honoured for the student volunteers who provide education and information to students regarding academic, health or personal matters. The Peers: Students Helping Students is also celebrating its 20th Anniversary on campus this year.
