2017 Election Events

Pre-Election Forum

January 31, 2017 at 5:00 pm in UMSU Council Chambers

This event is hosted by UMSU's Governance Coordinator and will provide information on the following topics:

  • Basic Structure of UMSU (including the role of Council, committees, and staff)
  • Review of Services and Businesses Operated by UMSU 
  • Objectives of the Organization
  • Information on the new Executive Oversight Committee
  • Scope of Operations

Potential candidates or individuals interested in learning more about UMSU are welcome to attend and the event is open to anyone. 

Nomination Period

February 6th to 17th, 2017

This is the time when interested candidates must pick up a nomination package and collect the required information and signatures. The forms are then returned to the CRO and processed. The nomination period ends on February 17th at the All Candidates Meeting. 

Campaigning Period

February 27th to March 7th, 2017

During this period candidates are allowed to advertise that they are running and seek support from individuals. Campaigning can be done in person or electronically through social media, email, messages, or website.

Electronic campaigning may continue until the close of voting. Any campaigning outside of this period is in violation of UMSU's election rules and should be reported to the CRO.

All Candidates Forum

February 17th at 5:15 pm (time subject to change)

This event is held at the Fort Garry Campus and provides students an opportunity to hear what candidates have to say, ask questions, and receive answers. 

Voting Days

March 8th to 10th, 2017

Voting will open on March 8th and until the close of voting on the 10th UMSU members will be able to log into Simply Voting and cast their ballot. If you need want more information check out our FAQ page.
