What do I need to vote?
In order to vote you will need your UMNetID and your associated password.
How do I vote?
- Go to umsu.simplyvoting.com
- Enter your UMNetID and password.
- Click on the election you would like to participate in.
How do I get my UMNetID and password?
Please contact IST for assistance. You can visit their website or stop in at 123 Fletcher Argue (Fort Garry) or 230 Neil John Maclean Library (Bannatyne).
I'm supposed to use my UMNetID and Password?!?
Yes, the way the system works is once you input your credentials, the Simply Voting server forwards the request to University of Manitoba's verification system, where it will cross-reference the information and send a message back to Simply Voting to indicate whether the data entered matches a record of an active student.
The system is safe and UMSU has opted to work with the University of Manitoba to use student ID's to minimize voter fraud. If you have any questions or concerns please contact our CRO for further information.
Is it safe?
Yes. SimplyVoting is used by other universities and governments around the world. For more information check out their website.
Is it accessible?
Yes. The voting websites are audited against Section 508 and WCAG-2 accessibility requirements and are assigned an "A" grade by the Bureau of Internet Accessibility.
How do I know if my vote got counted?
After you cast your vote you will be assigned a unique number. At the conclusion of the election, there will be a document uploaded which contains the results and a listing of all the numbers who voted for that candidate. Since each number is unique you can check to see if your number was listed under the individual you voted for.
Can I vote twice?
You can try, but you won't be able to. The second that you click vote on one device it sends the record to Simply Voting's servers and marks that you have voted. By the time the second request to vote comes through you will have been marked as voted and you will get an error message.
Can someone else vote using my login information?
It is your responsibility to keep your login information private and your account secure. If someone else knows your password or if you have it automatically saved they could login and cast your vote, but they could also VW courses, change your personal information, and who knows what else. Keep your devices secure.
