Elections UMSU is the official non-partisan body that is responsible for organizing University of Manitoba Students’ Union Elections and Referenda including the upcoming General Election that will be held online on March 4th & 5th, 2021.
There are 11 available positions to be filled for the 2021 UMSU General Election. The duties of each position below can be reviewed in UMSU’s Governance and Operations Manual.

The positions of President, Vice President Community Engagement, Vice President Student Life, Vice President Advocacy and Vice President Finance and Operations may campaign in slates of up to five candidates. Candidates who are running alone are considered to be running as a Slate of one for the purposes of the Election Rules. Note that candidates for Community Representatives may not register as a part of a slate.

- ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for nomination as a candidate, students must be a Member of the Union. For Community Representatives, candidates must be a self-declared member of the community they are being nominated to represent.
- NOMINATION PACKAGE
Read the nomination package and fill out the package in its entirety. The full nomination package can be accessed here or requested from cro@umsu.ca along with the other forms and documents needed for the nomination process.
- SUBMISSION
Go through the nomination checklist and check if you have completed all the requirements. Submit the completed nomination package along with the marked checklist electronically to cro@umsu.ca before Friday, February 12th, 5PM. Late submissions will NOT be accepted.
- ALL CANDIDATES’ MEETING
After submission of completed packages, nominees must attend the All Candidates Meeting on Friday, February 12th, 5:30PM that will be held virtually. The next steps of the election process will be explained during this meeting. Please note that this meeting is mandatory for all candidates and campaign managers.
