Additional UMSU Fees
The Scholarship and Bursary Fee goes towards UMSU sponsored scholarships and bursaries at the University of Manitoba. Each dollar raised is matched by the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative (MSBI) at 50 cents per dollar, up to predetermined maximums. This allows UMSU to distribute more than $1 million each year in scholarships and bursaries for our students.
The Indigenous Scholarship and Bursary Fee follows the same guidelines as the Scholarship and Bursary Fee, and is designed for scholarships and bursaries specific to Indigenous students.
The UMSU Scholarship and Bursary Endowment Fund is a separate subsidiary from UMSU that holds money in a trust, ensuring strong fiscal stability into the future. The Endowment Fund also supports larger events throughout the year that promote campus spirit and community engagement, should additional funding be required. All governance related matters and disbursement of fees from the fund require the approval of the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees.
The Capital Fund covers large projects, renovations, and maintenance for UMSU owned spaces and businesses.
The Childcare Fee makes significant contributions towards UMSU’s partnership with the University of Manitoba in developing the on-campus childcare services. This ensures that UMSU Members are guaranteed 70% of the available campus daycare spaces.
The Research Grants Fee provides funding for research projects within the University of Manitoba each year, which totals over $500,000 in research initiatives.
The Services Groups Fee contributes towards the funding of service groups across campus.
The Reallocation Fee helps to support smaller Faculty Associations, allowing them to organize programming, events, and specific supports to their respective students.
The Sustainability Fee contributes towards sustainability related events and partnerships. It also assists with costs associated with UM Cycle, UMSU’s bike retail and repair business.
