UMSU Community Groups

At UMSU, we celebrate the diversity of our student body through seven community groups. Each group represents unique identities, interests and lived experiences, creating welcoming spaces where students can connect, feel supported, and find community.

Whether you’re looking to meet people with shared backgrounds or explore new perspectives, getting involved in a community group is a great way to make meaningful connections and contribute to a more inclusive campus.

2SLGBTQIA+ Students' Community

The Queer Student Family Centre Lounge is located at 180 Helen Glass, and we are open during the weekdays (see our Instagram and sign on the Lounge door for exact hours). We have resources for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and allies, and offer a space for students who are part of the community to study and socialize. We host regular community assemblies, social events, and work with external community groups to provide education and information on 2SLGBTQIA+ related topics.

Accessibility Students' Community

The Accessibility Centre’s role is to assist students who self-identify as living with disabilities, whether they be visible, invisible, chronic, or acute. Our mission is to promote, defend and include all abilities while “moving towards a community free from barriers.” We strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our members, while advocating on their behalf to create a more equitable post-secondary learning environment for all. Our focus for has been developing an Accessible IT Guide, strengthening cross-campus collaboration through the Accessibility Working Group (AWG), and supporting our membership through the transition back to in-person learning!

Black Students' Community

The Black Students’ Community at the University of Manitoba is a safe and welcoming space for all students of African descent, whether from the continent, the Caribbean, Latin America, or the diaspora. We are committed to fostering unity, celebrating Black identity, and advocating for the needs of Black students on campus. Through cultural events, education, and community-building, we aim to create a supportive environment where Black students can thrive.
