WINNIPEG, MB – Today the Government of Manitoba has announced that all repayment of student loans will be suspended through September 30.
This matches the federal student loan policy and will be a significant benefit to students in the province grappling with financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Said UMSU President Jakob Sanderson, “This policy was a much needed success story from this government and we hope to continue working with them to move in the right direction on addressing student needs.”
VP Advocacy Sarah Bonner-Proulx added: “Students are disproportionately affected by COVID-19 as they are often financially precarious and are at high-risk of job loss in the gig economy. This gives such students much needed relief.”
UMSU credits the University of Manitoba for their help on this initiative and looks forward to continued advocacy for students amidst these unprecedented times.
