UMSU Act

The Manitoba government adopted this Act incorporating UMSU in 1975, although UMSU had existed in various forms since 1914. The UMSU Act sets out the basic legal rights and powers of UMSU, and takes precedence over the Bylaws, Policies, and standing orders of council. The UMSU Act may only be changed by the Manitoba Legislature.

Bylaw Manual

These are the official Bylaws of the Union. The Bylaws set the basic rules by which the organization operates, and where they are in conflict, the Bylaws take precedence over the Policies and standing orders of council. The Bylaws are overseen by the Policy and Bylaws Committee, and amendments may only be adopted by a two-thirds majority in UMSU Council during regular session (September to April).

Governance and Operations Manual

The Governance and Operations Manual provides the structure necessary for the operation of the Union. It details the structure, composition, and operational procedures of UMSU Council, committees, and organizations. Internal policies, event procedures, and miscellaneous information. The Governance and Operations Manual is overseen by the Policy and Bylaws Committee.

Election and Referendum Manual

These are the official covering Elections and Referendums of the Union. The manual provides direction on the operations and procedures for all UMSU Elections and Referendums which occur on campus and includes topics such as nomination requirements, advertising, and complaints and appeals information.
