As you may have heard by now the City of Winnipeg’s draft budget proposes cutting the U-Pass program – a key service proven to positively benefit both student affordability and environmental sustainability in Manitoba.
Want to know how to get involved to save the U-Pass? Try some of the following:
- Use social media to share why saving the U-Pass is important to you, using the hashtag #SAVETHEUPASS.
- Call or email your city councillor and let them know what taking away the U-Pass means to you and your fellow students. You can find city councillor contact info here.
- Join in on one of the call bank days anytime from 10:00am – 2:00pm on March 12 or March 18 in University Centre, where UMSU and student volunteers will be calling city councillors en masse to demand the U-Pass not be cut.
- Show up to the budget’s full council meeting March 25 and pack the gallery at City Hall.
For any questions, concerns, or to add any of your own advocacy ideas to the mix, email UMSU president Jakob Sanderson at pres@umsu.ca, with the subject line: Save the U-Pass!
