Hello Student Clubs,
The Context:
After a discussion with relevant persons internally and externally, I was given the approval to launch a portal for student club executives. Over the past few business days, I have quickly designed, developed, and iterated the Club Executive Portal pages. Previously, this was only the “Student Club Resources” webpage and I transformed that into the “Club Executive Portal”.
This will allow the UMSU Clubs Administration to centralize large amounts of information in one easy place hence increasing accessibility of relevant information, forms, and documents for new, current, and prospective club executives. It will also allow easy access for external persons and organizations to understand information about clubs in general.
As you may have noted, I have said quickly and that was because I have only completed the essential functions of the portal (why you see 1.0 in the post title). Over time, the portal will be slowly updated with new information and new items.
So, what does this mean for you – the club executives?
You will have easy access to…
- An archive of announcements related to Student Clubs.
- Club Resources in terms of relevant forms and documentations.
- Upcoming Dates related to UMSU and Clubs such as SEA meetings.
- Direct links to relevant pages and social medias.
- COVID-19 information that impacts clubs.
Neglecting club recognition / renewals will mean you are missing out on benefits, I would not solely rely on this portal as your only source.
Announcements Protocol:
I do feel like there is an efficient and effective way to filter/prioritize announcements. However, that will be something to do in the future. For now, announcements will be sent here and the club email contacts given to us. If you have not received email announcements from us, you either did not give us an updated contact email or your club is not considered recognized or renewed by UMSU.
Depending on the contents of the information, some information may be redacted on a case-by-case basis due to privacy reasons.
What does this mean? If you want all of the information about clubs, check both the portal and your email.
Terminology update:
Previous years at UMSU Clubs Administration have used the terminology “Club Portal” to reference a club’s directory page. As nice as it sounded, it confused a lot of club executives and I believe it would be best if we all refer to it as a “Club’s Directory Page” instead. It would be simpler and we can all use Club Portal to refer to the Club Executive Portal instead.
Future Plans:
There will be a rearrangement for the Student Clubs page and more updates to the Club Portal. This will be done in the future, hopefully, depending on my workload.
And that’s all, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at studentclubs@umsu.ca for any questions!
Have a nice day / evening.
Sincerely,
Tom Tran
