Research Assistant
Term Position (May-Aug)
Reporting to the UMSU President, Vice president Advocacy and UMSU Strategy & Research Advisor, the Summer Research Assistant will aid UMSU by conducting research that aligns with UMSU’s goals and objectives around student advocacy, program development, and government relations. The incumbent will be tasked with conducting open source research, filing access to information requests, constructing student surveys, drafting research reports, analyzing government and university policy, and communication and attending meetings with outside stakeholders on a range of topics of interest for UMSU.
Skills and Qualifications
Excellent writing capacity – able to craft a cohesive narrative from data;
Ability to provide conscientious updates and communicate regularly via email;
Keen attention to detail, and thorough documentation of research data and sources;
Basic knowledge of statistics gathering and calculation;
Ability to tie specific events/developments to larger context of postsecondary education;
Accepting of feedback and open to incorporating suggestions into work;
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite – ability to compile data in visual graphs an asset;
Willingness to sign an intellectual property waiver
