The Asper School of Business Accounting Association works with the faculty, the Career Development Centre (CDC), CPA Manitoba, various accounting firms and other companies to provide students with direction in pursuing accounting positions and navigating the major and CPA pre-requisites. Multiple annual events are organized to enrich students’ educational experience. A Wine and Cheese is held, in conjunction with the CDC, every September to allow students and employers the opportunity to meet before CPA recruitment begins. The Toronto Trip sends ten upper year students to visit large scale firms each October. Lastly, ASBAA and CPA Manitoba host the Business and Accounting Student Case Competition (BASC) in January. This weekend-long event allows university students from UManitoba and other provinces to showcase their talents, improve case and presentation skills and expand their network. ASBAA also holds three member meetings each school year. During such meetings, CPA professionals are invited to speak and answer questions from students. On a daily basis, ASBAA is available to answer any questions students may have about the accounting major.
