Science FUNdamentals (SciFUN) is an established student group with the mandate to “provide accessible science education for all” by creating fun and interactive science programming for grades K-6. Founded at the University of Alberta in 2003, today, SciFUN is a CRA registered charity with an expanded programming to include kindergarten to grade 6 students.
Our mission is fulfilled through our year-round classroom programming. In our year-round classroom programming, university student volunteers are paired up and assigned to a local elementary school classroom for the year to present monthly interactive science demos. Our volunteers are from backgrounds ranging from education to sciences to engineering and the arts faculty. With demos ranging from strawberry DNA extraction to making paper, our volunteers supplement the existing Manitoba school curriculum and enrich the learning experience in primary education.
As a volunteer, you can join our mission to provide accessible science education while benefiting from connecting with your community. From developing your public speaking skills, to forming long-lasting connections with other students, our volunteers will have a truly valuable experience with SciFUN.
