Dear Students,
UMSU’s Board of Directors has officially voted to save the U-Pass program. After a referendum, an unparalleled student mobilization, a $4.3M city budget amendment, and a spirited board meeting, it is now official: You WILL have a U-Pass this fall. From the bottom of my heart I am grateful for every phone call, letter, petition signature, and delegation who helped make this day possible. Congratulations!
The U-Pass rate will be $200 per term and the board’s resolution also directs the executive committee to push for opt-outs regarding students outside the transit service area, for those on temporary residence in a rural community, and to preserve all existing opt-outs. We look forward to signing the official contract with Winnipeg Transit shortly.
Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your commitment to saving our most used program.
Thank you. Marsee. Miigwetch. Ekosani. Kinanaskomitin.
Jakob Sanderson, UMSU President
