Dear Students,
Due to Covid-19 and the impact it has had on the University of Manitoba and our students, UMSU has had to make the following tough decisions:
1. Closure of all UMSU businesses until Friday, April 10th. This includes: The Hub Social Club, Degrees Diner & Bakery, IQ’s Cafe & Billiards, The UMSU Service Centre, UMCycle, GPAs, The Digital Print & Design Centre and UMFM.
2. Layoff of hourly & casual UMSU employees as of March 22, 2020 with the pay period ending March 22, 2020, and employees will be compensated based on their previous pay period hours. UMSU will be working with these employees to answer any questions they may have in regards to EI and any other programs including the recently announced government stimulus for part time employees of small businesses. We are also working to ensure accommodations for any international student employees if they are not covered by these accommodations.
3. Remaining UMSU staff to work from home until Friday, April 10th.
UMSU will continue to review and assess the situation on a daily basis. Like everyone, we are learning on the fly; however, we fully intend to get through these unprecedented times with unwavering resilience and dedication to the students we serve.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Your UMSU Team
