Eligible

See if you are eligible for a U-Pass.

Only full-time students - students enrolled in at least nine (9) credit hours in a Term - who are members of UMSU or the Graduate Students’ Association are eligible for the U-Pass

New Student

Get your Peggo card for the first time.

First you will need to get your student ID from the Registrars Office. Once you get that you may visit the UMSU Service Centre or Answers Banntyne where we can issue you a U-Pass

Returning Student

Reactivate your card each term.

If you are full time it will automatically reload on Sept. 1 and Jan. 1. You'll just need to visit the UMSU Service Centre or Answers Banntyne in Sept. for a new 2026-2027 validation sticker

Opt Outs

See if you can opt-out and important dates.

If you qualify under one of the approved opt-out criteria, you can opt-out during the opt-out period and receive a credit to your student account for the amount of the U-Pass

Card Not Working or Lost Card

Replace a lost, stolen, or damaged card

Visit us at the UMSU Service Centre or Answers Bannatyne. A new U-Pass is subject to a $15 replacement fee. Make sure to have your Student ID card with you

Can I opt-out?

You may be eligible if:

You commute from outside the city

You are a Winnipeg Transit Employee

You are studying outside Canada for 60 days

You DO NOT qualify if:

You drive to campus/purchased a UM Parking Pass

You live in Residence/ don't take the bus

You live in the city but do not come to campus as you are just doing research

My card says "insufficient value"

If you have a U-Pass in the Fall and Winter term and it is reading as “insufficient value” come visit us at the UMSU Service Centre or Answers Bannatyne as the card may be defective. Always make sure to have your student ID card with you.

If you have a regular Post-Secondary card that is reading as “insufficient value” this could mean that the card is empty and needs to be reloaded.

I missed the opt-out deadline

Unfortunately late submissions will not be accepted. The opt-out form closes at 4PM on the last day of the opt-out period.

I lost my Peggo card

Come visit us at the UMSU Service Centre or Answers Bannatyne. Make sure to have your student ID card with you.

I was charged but never got my card

As long as you have been assessed the U-Pass fee in your tuition, you can pick up your U-Pass anytime during the term that you were charged for.

I took a term off and now my U-Pass doesn't work

DO NOT load any product on your U-Pass or Post-Secondary Peggo card! If you took a term off, or were not registered for any classes your Peggo card will be deactivated and will not work even if you load money or a pass onto the card.

Please visit the UMSU Service Centre or Answers Bannatyne to get a new card.

How can I load my Peggo card?

In the Fall and Winter term the U-Pass is only meant to be used as a U-Pass. This means you DO NOT have to load any product on your card as it will be preloaded with a 4-month pass.

In the summer (May – Aug.) your U-Pass Peggo card will be empty. During this time you can load your Peggo card with any of the discounted Post-Secondary fares.

You may load your Peggo card at the UMSU Service Centre, Answers Bannatyne, Shoppers Drug Mart, or 7-Eleven. All fare prices are listed on the Winnipeg Transit website.
